Your Treatment Plan

After a diagnosis of prostate cancer, you’ll meet with your doctor to talk about your wishes and concerns and create a care plan that will work best for you. Your care plan will depend on:

Feel peace of mind knowing you have access to the latest, most sophisticated treatments in the area.

Hormone Therapy

Your care plan may include hormone therapy, which decreases testosterone in the body. Prostate cancer cells need testosterone to grow. Hormone therapy can cause the cancer cells to die or slow in growth.

Prostate Cancer Surgery

Surgery to remove part or all of the prostate gland is called prostatectomy. Whenever possible, your surgeon will use minimally invasive techniques so that you have a short hospital stay, faster recovery and less risk of blood loss, scarring and infection.

Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy may be done to stop or slow cancer growth. Your doctor may recommend:

  • External beam radiation therapy – Uses high-powered beams of energy to destroy cancer cells while avoiding healthy tissue
  • Intensity-modulated radiation therapy – Delivers precise radiation doses to focused areas of a tumor to slow growth and protect healthy tissue
  • Prostate seed implantation (brachytherapy) – Places tiny radioactive seeds in the prostate gland to give doses of radiation directly to the tumor
