These compassionate organizations help you and your loved ones navigate cancer treatment and recovery. From assistance with day-to-day living to fostering local connections, our partners are always ready to lend a hand.
Hope Connections
Hope Connections is a nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients and their loved ones access support, education, and community. Some offerings you might find useful include:
- A variety of outpatient support groups for every stage of your journey
- Unique classes for your body and mind—such as boxing, yoga, meditation, art, and knitting
- Educational programs designed to support patients and caregivers
- Social activities and events like book clubs, fundraisers, dinners, and parties
CaringMatters
CaringMatters offers emotional and practical support for patients and caregivers in Montgomery County. When you find yourself facing the everyday challenges cancer brings, CaringMatters is here to help.
At-Home Assistance
- Companionship for patients at home and on outings to local destinations
- Transportation within the Montgomery County area
- Wellness services, such as massage, bedside music therapy, pet therapy, reiki, and mindfulness
- Assistance with meal preparation, errands, and household chores
- Caregiver respite for hardworking loved ones who need a break to recharge
Community Care
- Adult grief support, including support groups, a Bereaved Caregiver Retreat, and grief-focused parenting workshops
- Camp Erin, Good Grief Club, and family nights to help children process the loss of a loved one
- A variety of workshops, classes, clubs, and other activities for a wide range of ages, demographics, religious backgrounds, and communities
Smith Center for Healing and the Arts
This Washington, D.C.–based nonprofit offers healing and connections through community and creativity. Join fellow cancer patients for unique, artistic programs and workshops. The Smith Center offers:
- Creative workshops led by professional artists and educators on subjects such as abstract self-portraits, knitting on the couch, and creative writing
- Support groups for certain cancer diagnoses, age groups, ethnicities, religious practices, and LGBTQ+ communities
- Unique, cancer-friendly exercises, such as chair yoga, Qigong, Zumba, and Pilates
- Life-enhancing retreats focused on experiential healing and community with other cancer patients in a beautiful, woodland setting
