Finding Help
As part of your treatment plan, your cancer care team connects you with resources that meet your individual needs. Your oncology nutritionist, social worker, nurse navigator, and others can help you design a program that supports your mind, body, and spirit. Whenever you need help, reach out to your team.
Why Is Holistic Healthcare Important?
Cancer doesn’t affect only your body. Many patients find it also impacts their mood, relationships, and overall quality of life. We offer support for all parts of your life—because you’re more than just your diagnosis. Using support services can ease your journey through treatment and recovery.
Mental Healthcare
Many people with cancer experience anxiety, depression, or general stress due to their diagnosis. Thankfully, mental healthcare can help manage these symptoms.
Individual Therapy
Your cancer care includes access to board-certified therapists, psychiatrists, and other mental health professionals. These medical specialists can help you cope with a cancer diagnosis and adjust to changes in your life and relationships. You’ll have exceptional mental health support every step of the way.
Mindfulness
We offer several mindfulness programs to help manage the stress cancer can cause. Meditation, yoga, grounding exercises, and artistic outlets are all available to you.
Movement Programs
Physical activity can help your body recover from treatment more easily. It can also improve your mood and mental health. The Adventist HealthCare Cancer Centers offer group exercise classes specifically designed with your needs in mind. Connect with other patients and motivate yourself to stay active with these inclusive workouts.
Creative Expression
Art can be therapeutic, soothing, and fun. Take care of your emotional wellbeing by joining art classes. Not an artist? Not a problem! We encourage you to get creative and boost your mood with self-expression. Write, paint, or sculpt your way to a healthier you.
Spiritual Care
No matter your spiritual or religious beliefs, Adventist HealthCare connects you to pastoral care and religious support. Our professionals are here to provide spiritual community and compassion to you and your family.
Symptom Management
Adventist HealthCare provides pain management and lymphedema care, as well as treatment that prevent infections after chemotherapy. Your dedicated team of experts will help you find ways to be more comfortable during treatment and recovery.
Nutrition Counseling
Side effects of cancer treatment often make it hard to get enough nutrients and calories. We have specialized cancer nutritionists who work with you one-on-one and in group settings to plan meals that fit your needs, tastes and budget.
Community Support
Other patients, survivors, and families can play a healing role in your cancer journey. We offer support groups, classes, and activities that help you stay plugged in to a group of compassionate and supportive people.
Educational Resources
Sometimes, learning more about your illness and your treatments can help them feel less scary. Explore our online health library or visit the Stephen J. Newman Oncology Library at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center. Our library is open 24 hours a day and includes books, videos, and computers to help you or your family members learn more.
